DIY Ideas for Repurposing Picture Frames

My husband and I have recently been doing some spring cleaning in the garage and that’s when I made my discovery.  There in the corner was a dust-covered box full of old picture frames that I had intended to use for crafts but had completely forgotten about!  At some point or another, the frames had migrated out of my home either because I no longer wanted to display the picture or because the frame was no longer my style.  Either way, I’m left with WAY more picture frames than I could ever use on my walls!  But rather than donate, sell or toss them, I’ll reuse them for a different, decorative purpose in the house.

Even if you no longer like the color of a frame, you can still make it work if you’re willing to paint it.  And if you don’t have any extra frames lying around, go to discount retail stores like TJ Maxx, HomeGoods or Marshalls to look for cute frames at reasonable prices.  Be sure to look in the art section as well because you can sometimes get framed art for less than the cost of an empty frame and you can always remove the art if you don’t like it.

Happy Framing!

I think these are great.. but there should also be credit given where credit is due. #11, for example, is from Lindsey Ballard’s blog Makely’s School for Girls (formerly Living with Lindsey). Would have been great for the pictures to have been linked to their origin.

      Hi Anna,

I couldn’t agree with you more! Unfortunately, when I first started blogging I didn’t know how to incorporate links, nor did I know proper etiquette about giving credit. I learned a lot those first few months! I’ve slowly been going back through old posts to update them and provide all of the source links and credit, but I haven’t done this particular post yet. Thank you for providing the source for #11 – I’ve updated it and will continue to update the others.
