Last week, the bathroom tiles finally started going in and for the first time, I could see my vision coming together.  While exciting, it was also a bit stressful.  There were so many little details to take into consideration!  Here’s what it looked like at the end of the day on Friday.

The ceiling was painted and I am absolutely in love with the beadboard!  While you’re not supposed to use MDF in a bathroom {because of the moisture}….I did.  In order to help better protect it from the moisture, a second type of primer was put on before painting to act as a barrier.  I’ll share product details in the final post.

The subway tile in the shower is finally in, although not yet grouted.  I knew from the get-go that I wanted to stagger the tiles and I’m so happy with how it has turned out.  Grouting is happening today and I’ve chosen just a basic white to complement all of the trim and woodwork in the bathroom.

And the biggest surprise last week?? Who knew that figuring out the exact details of the shampoo/shower recess would be so time-consuming!  I love how it turned out, though…

The floor also went it {it’s not grouted yet either, though}.  I was debating between a straight pattern and a staggered one, but once we started playing with the tiles and the design on the floor, it became clear that a straight pattern was the way to go.  There’s a lot of variety and movement in the tiles and when they were staggered, it just looked too busy.

Now on to the fun part!  While there’s obviously a ton of things still to be done in the bathroom, my mind is already racing about the fun details.  I haven’t shopped for anything yet, but here’s a look at some of the things I’m considering.  I’m planning to use only neutrals so that the vanity stands out, but to keep things from looking too boring, I’m introducing various shades and lots of textures.

This week we’ll hopefully see the tile finished, the wallpaper go up, and all of the trim added!

  1. It always looks worse before it gets better – it is tough to get through bathroom reno. The accessories are great – I have a sign in my laundry room that says, “Live, Laugh, Laundry.”

  2. Can’t wait to see the end result! The bathroom accessories are beautiful and you are making great progress!! totally worth the wait!

  3. Kim,
It’s really going to be wonderful. Don’t you just love a shiny new bathroom. We did our guest bathroom in similar materials about 3 years ago…it makes such a difference.
    Thanks for sharing.
